About two weeks ago, I jumped on a train headed to London to hang out for a night with Andie Robison. The next day (after watching someone steal a sandwich, then get arrested for stealing a sandwich), I met Jill Mosher and Jenna Thrash for some food and Jill and I headed to Paris. Neither of us had ever been to Paris, and neither of us really had an agenda of what we wanted to do, so it was my very favorite kind of trip really. We spent most of our time walking (and walking and walking), exploring the streets of Paris, making stops on benches for a quick break, stopping in to places we wanted to see, people watching, and enjoying our surroundings. We did of course stop by the Eiffel Tower, saw the Mona Lisa at the Louvre, walked around Notre Dame, and enjoyed some long, tasty meals. But mostly it was just good to be together. We both commented on how it didn't feel like we were in Paris, that it didn't feel like it was at all abnormal to be sitting under a twinkling Eiffel Tower, being slightly harassed by people selling little minature towers for you to take home and treasure forever. I think that just confirms for me something I have been learning and feeling for a long time now. You see, to me home isn't just a place- it's people. There are certain people I can be with anywhere in the world and feel the love and comfort and community that home brings. And even though the sights and smells and sounds might be different, that feeling remains. I like it. And I'm thankful that I have people in my life that I can say that about.
Here's some pictures of our time:
We had a goodbye party for these two lovely ladies at work...Good luck girls!!
